I am not teaching The Crucible and The Scarlett Letter. Someone around here is crazy but it's not me. I love them both but there is no need to teach them back to back in the same semester. I have nothing against Puritan literature other than it can at times bore me to tears; Anne Bradstreet anyone? But, to quote John Stossel: "Give me a break!"

Choose The Crucible. My kids respond to it much more than they do to Hester and Dimmesdale. They get angry over John Proctor's mistreatment, especially when we see the movie.

I'm actually leaning towards The Crucible. I just don't understand how any sane department would even think about doing this. We have to squeeze an entire year into one semester and I just don't have time for both.
